For the creation of this project, I began by looking through the works of several artists known for their pop art styles. The one that stuck out most to me was Warhol because I found his use of color and different layers very unique. After gathering some inspiration from one of his more famous pieces, Marilyn Monroe Series, I created something my first piece of pop art.
Process
The process of this project was different than anything I've ever done. I was introduced to a variety of new tools in Photoshop and enjoyed exploring different techniques such as brush tools and filters. I messed around with changing brush styles, shapes, sizes, and even colors. For filters, I used cutout under the artistic folder and adjusted number of levels and increased edge simplicity.
Visuals/ How were they effective?
The overal visual aspect of my pop art I thought was very appealing. The colors I chose to work with matched that of Jaden, my subject, which really worked to my advantage. They were simplistic, yet gave off a bright and colorful vibe. In addition, the splatter paint brush style I used set my work apart from my classmates because it made it seem more abstract.
Final Thoughts
While this project was fun to create, with limited class time to work, it's hard to be as intricate in your designs while still being able to meet deadlines. I'm pleased with my final project, but didn't feel I had very much experience with the tools I used going into it. However, with continuous practice of these new skills I've learned, I hope to get better and faster at using Photoshop and all the tools it has to offer.
